Canada-U.S. trade tensions since early 2025 have pushed a lot of Canadians to think harder about who actually owns the brands they buy from. It’s not a fringe reaction — the Bank of Canada’s own Canadian Survey of Consumer Expectations found that by the end of 2025, roughly 50–60% of Canadians said they were deliberately keeping more of their spending in Canada and cutting back on U.S.-made goods and travel. A March 2025 Lightspeed survey put the number prioritizing Canadian products at 91%, and Ipsos later found that 82% of people who made the switch expect to keep buying Canadian even after the current crisis passes.

At the same time, most people don’t want to give up the convenience of shopping on Amazon.ca — fast Prime shipping, easy returns, one cart for everything. Those two things don’t have to be in conflict. A lot of well-known storefronts on Amazon.ca are run by Canadian-owned or Canadian-founded companies; you just have to know which ones.

What this site does

SHOP CANADIAN OWNED is a curated list of brands with real Canadian ownership or founding roots, each linking straight to that brand’s official storefront on Amazon.ca. No searching, no guessing whether a familiar-looking logo is actually a Canadian company or just sold in Canada. Every brand on this site gets its own page with the sourced facts behind the Canadian-ownership claim — founder names, founding city, and a direct quote or citation from an official or independently verifiable source.

How brands get picked

Before a brand is added, we check its own official site, press materials, or reputable third-party coverage (news outlets, verified case studies, government or institutional pages) for a concrete Canadian-ownership or Canadian-founding claim — not just a maple leaf on the packaging. Where a company’s ownership has changed over time (bought out, gone public, sold to a foreign parent), we say so on that brand’s page rather than leave it out. Sources are listed at the bottom of every brand page so you can check them yourself.
